Columbia University Sunset

I just finished my first week as a graduate student at Columbia University working on a degree in Educational Leadership at Teacher's College. My professors are affirming many of my theories or speculations with their research and also challenging me to become a more transformational leader. New York City is overwhelmingly large. I have been spending about an hour each day exploring the city. Enjoy the city sunset.

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate & Jokes

After dinner this evening we went to Whole Foods to get some cookies for dessert. Jonathan picked out a chocolate chocolate chip vegan cookie and a chocolate milk. While waiting to check out we tasted some locally made chocolate fiber bars called Monkey Bars that Jonathan really liked, so I bought a box. He ended up wanting to eat the cookie, a bar, and drink the milk all at once. He was extremely happy, and he obviously likes chocolate.

On the way home he kept saying "Stop talking. It's alligator", "Stop talking. It's she she", "Stop talking. It's ha ha." and laughing hysterically and waving his arms. Baby jokes are hilarious.

Cubicles

For 5 years I've used a plastic picnic table from WalMart as my desk at work. Today we got (used) cubicles. Here's a picture of me at my new "work station".

I'm Same Same Pap

Jonathan and I found out that Pap bought a motorcycle on the way to Lowe's. When we got there he wanted to ride the tractors (with his sunglasses). He just kept repeating - I'm same same Pap.

by the shores of gitche gumee

eleanor, patrick, and i spent sunday through tuesday in the porcupine mountains. they are in the upper peninsula of michigan, on lake superior, about a 5 hour drive from minneapolis. gitche gumee is the native name for lake superior. you may remember The Songs of Hiawatha, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:

"By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis,
Daughter of the Moon, Nokomis.
Dark behind it rose the forest,
Rose the black and gloomy pine-trees,
Rose the firs with cones upon them;
Bright before it beat the water,
Beat the clear and sunny water,
Beat the shining Big-Sea-Water."
